Salt Therapy

A Little History

An ancient ocean existed where the Himalayan Mountains are today – estimated 250-300 million years ago – depending on the source. When the ocean dried up, a massive salt deposit, sea salt bed, rich in minerals remained buried by the forces that created the mountain range, covered by lava. The pure salt crystals were embedded in the rising mountains and believe to have been protected by lava and sealed off from civilization’s pollution.

This incredibly healing salt contains an enormous amount of health and spiritual properties. Over hundreds of ancient Ayurvedic medicines used today require Himalayan salt as an ingredient in the treatment of medical conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and other disease.

Physical Healing Properties

Halotherapy or salt therapy is likened to spending time in the sea air at the ocean. Experts in the industry note that the concentration of particles in halotherapy is about 10 to 15 times the concentration found by the sea. A 45-minute session is estimated to be equal to three days by the sea. In a salt room, salt booth or salt cave, activated dry salt particles naturally detoxify the body systems.

Ancient healers and philosophers recommended salt inhalation for the respiratory system, skin and health problems. Dry salt therapy originated from ancient cave therapy, where miners working in caves showed fewer respiratory illness than those not working in the caves. Salt rooms have been popular in Europe for years.

Benefits of salt therapy are significant – salt levels affect us at a cellular level, energetically as well as blood sugar levels; it is naturally rejuvenating to the cells. Salt is a natural disinfectant; it is antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antimicrobial; salt is anti-inflammatory and a natural antihistamine. Himalayan salt is not processed and contains 84 elements and trace minerals found in the human body. Dry salt air is far more healing than moist air.

Negatively charged ions in Himalayan salt improves our health and mood. Inhaling particles may reduce inflammation and mucus in the lungs, improving respiratory conditions such as asthma, allergies, bronchitis, sinus congestion and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Skin conditions (psoriasis, rashes, eczema, acne) may improve with halotherapy. Scientific studies show that people living with respiratory, skin and other health issues breathe easier, skin is more elastic and less irritated and overall exhibit fewer symptoms after halotherapy.

Halotherapy has detoxing and calming effects that support the immune, nervous and lymphatic systems. People often feel reduced stress levels, fewer headaches, increased energy, and better sleep. Negative ions from the salt purifies the air, offsetting positive ions from pollution in the environment and may increase lung capacity and reduce physical ailments for adults, children and athletes. Treatments are recommended to help keep the body healthy during cold/flu and allergy seasons and if you come for treatment when you start to feel ill, your symptoms may go away all together or be reduced by the salt.

Spiritual Healing Properties

For centuries pure salt has been used for protection from negative energy, especially protection in and around the home. Salt is also used for purification, cleansing and dispelling negativity in many traditional rituals. Pure salts are also used to release attachments, including emotional attachments.

Himalayan Salt is considered an edible crystal known as Pink Halite containing metaphysical benefits and properties. Himalayan Crystal Salt has similar properties as Rose Quartz and is an excellent crystal for love and self-love. It not only helps one to experience self-love, but enables one to take action with self-love like living a healthy lifestyle, setting boundaries, finding a sense of purpose, and overall enjoyment of life.

Similar to a meditating, during a Salt therapy session, you will breathe deeply while listening to calming music and focusing on the natural beauty of the salt crystals.
